and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Lets focus on the word repent. What does the word repent mean to you?
Repent:
- to change ones mind or purpose
- the mind, the set of moral reflection
This change of mind involves both a turning from sin AND a turning to God.
How do we turn from sin?
- Daily choices
- Everyday decisions
Daily choices(to pick out, select; to choose for oneself):
We have tons and tons of choices all around us! Just like when we walk into an ice cream shop we think ‘what flavor of ice cream would we like to eat?’ We know what kind we like and even get toppings on the ice cream, the choices are there.
Same as doing so at the ice cream shop, we make decisions every day. According to a source we make over 35,000 decisions A DAY! So we know that some, if not all, of those decisions affect us immediately or later down the road. Our words and actions have impact in our life. Choosing to slow down or curse out the person going super slow in the ‘passing lane’ on the road, will affect us. God decides when it will happen but those decisions will NOT go unnoticed or unpunished. Every decision we make will have consequence if you do not repent to the Lord.
Everyday decisions(“unto a discerning of good and evil“):
When we have the choices in front of us then we have to decide what to do. Either you submit to the devils schemes or submit to God’s Peaceful life. Which one would you choose? A decision as easy as deciding the flavor of your ice cream or deciding what movie to watch. This can go back to what you put in your body counts, “or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Even to go to what we see matters, “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness.” Luke 11:34-35
God has given us his word to live by and to accomplish His will on earth! We get side tracked with our everyday life and our selfish ways and fleshly desires that take us apart from the bible. I truly believe turning away from your past, repenting, walking away from who you used to be and believing and living the gospel is the first step to growing our relationship with God.
