Pride: inordinate self-esteem

Inordinate: unusually or disproportionately large; excessive.

(of a person) unrestrained in feelings or behavior; disorderly.

Self-esteem: a confidence and satisfaction in oneself or the flesh.

Pride is a feeling that follows an unGodly behavior(Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall). For example (this really helped me out in my spiritual growth)

#1: if my answer to someone’s question is related to my personal accomplishment or my families accomplishment; its pride. #2: If my answer is I, me, or myself; its pride.

Yes, my answer to #1 may be I am proud of what my family has accomplished. We have to remember anything we accomplish is because God has BLESSED us with it! We must re-route our “pride” (our thinking) to God. Thank Him for everything He has Blessed us with. Sometimes I say “Thank God my family and I are all healthy.” In other words re-routing your thoughts. This might be difficult to do and you might be thinking”Ashley I don’t know if i can do this” but with guidance through the Holy Spirit this will help you worship the Lord and reroute your mind to God. Remember the power of the “I AM” what you say matters. Don’t block your own blessings.

#2 When speaking about me, I, myself is all out of selfishness. In the Bible says we are here to serve others (1 John 4:19 “Our love for others is our grateful response to the love God first demonstrates to us.”) So putting your self first isnt your job. Its your job to put others first and God will Bless you.

Pride actually means (read above) and it is an abomination to Gods. (Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but humility comes with wisdom.) The spirit of pride can get to us in our attitudes, words, actions, etc. God tells us in Deuteronomy 8:2 “God will humble us when we go through trials and turbulence.” Stand firm in your faith and He will make a way for you!

Pray: Lord thank you so much for helping me realize that my pride is not what you want me to be. God please take over my pride, humble my mind and reroute my heart to humility, according to your word. Only you know how to perfectly place your blessings in my life. Teach me your way to be more like Christ, In Jesus name.
